Sewing machine recommendations

Date November 24, 2008

Since we work with kids, we often see the small plastic “kid” marketed machines when really, they’d be better off with a hefty old Singer or Kenmore. The kid ones are cute but don’t really withstand the rugged tests presented to them by their users. There is often a little more force used by a kid sewer than by an adult. (imagine that!) Really, if there were truth in advertising, they’d market the big machines to the little kids and the little machines to, well, to nobody really.

A few folks have asked us about machines and lucky for us our friend Leslie Bonnell over at the Stitch Lab on S. 3rd Street has a page on her site with some great advice and recommendations for purchasing a sewing machine. Check it out if you’re in the market.
