Free Tickets to Austin Mini Maker Faire!

Date April 25, 2012

Have you heard about Austin Mini Maker Faire? There are going to be lots of amazing makers. And it’s going to be in one of Austin’s really cool venues in downtown Austin. There will be fun things to make. Great accordian driven steam punk to listen to. And creative people to watch all day long. You can even volunteer if you want to!

It really is one of Austin’s don’t miss events. Is it on your calendar yet? May 12 10am-6pm

And I’m giving away 2 free adult tickets! Just leave me a comment answering the question, what have you made recently or what are you dying to make sometime soon?  I’ll pick a winner on Friday May 4th and announce it here.

I recently made a cloth book as a baby shower present. I used some cute flannel prints and some fabric scraps recycled from jeans and t-shirts.

Just finished stitching a pair of ‘one of a kind’~ made without a pattern, from a recycled Pier One dress I wore in my 20′s, overalls for the kiddo! :) She saw these ruffly, tacky fabric pair at Target, for $19.99!? that I DO NOT have or care to spend on. I stared at em’ a bit, smiled and said, “I’ll MAKE you some.” And I did!!! And she LOVES them. Sigh… Why don’t I have more time to do this kinda stuff?

I made a “Pac Man Tag” game kit for my students: one wristband with Pac Man eating silver dots; four wristbands showing both a “live” ghost and a “dead” ghost (just the eyes); two baseball-sized glitterfelt cherries.

We play the game by following the lines painted on the floor of the gym. :)

I just made a paperchain, a rally cry of sorts, that said “believe” out of this’s and that’s we could scrounge up at 3:00am in the Children’s Hospital :-)

I’ve wanted to make stuff for SO long and I’ve finally started doing stuff after many, many starts and stops. I just make a cracker box amp (teeny guitar amplifier) as my very first soldering project. I also finally fixed the handle on my guitar case that’s been broken for about 5 years: I went to the hardware store and got 5 links of a huge plastic chain, and zip tied the links to the guitar case! Took 60 seconds, tops. My wife gave me a soldering practice kit for St. Valentine’s Day to get my soldering skills up to snuff so I can actually start the ice tube clock kit (http://www.ladyada.net/make/icetube/) she got me longer ago than I’d care to admit. Clearly, high speed is not my forté.

I’m slowly working my way on a cross-stitch version of Monet’s waterlilies. Can we count cooking? My last creation was banana coconut pancakes with caramel sauce.
