Next Thursday is our first ever Mamas Craft Night Out for which we partnered with the Austin Children’s Museum. It’ll be a fun night of craft, appliques to be exact. A little cutting, ironing, stitching, talking, imbibing of the spirits if you’re so inclined and hanging out in the Children’s Museum all by ourselves! Just mamas having a night out and getting their craft on. It should be a total blast!

On Monday I’ll be giving away two tickets to the event which includes craft materials and free parking downtown. If you leave a comment here and/or like our Facebook page, you’ll be entered for a chance to win! Just to keep things interesting, the question I want you to answer in the comment is, “I think it would be fun to craft with other mamas downtown because…”

Simple as that. Okay? So go ahead, leave a comment and share this link with your mama friends if you would. Then hopefully we’ll see you downtown. Where you could make a cool applique like this one below…

Join us at the Austin Children’s Museum for a fun night of creativity and making and talking and a Mamas Crafty Night Out! (no experience necessary to play!) Including FREE PARKING to all who register!

We’ll kick off this series with a fun appliqué project from our new book, Make Stuff Together. Bring your favorite beverage and a garment to embellish and we’ll have what you need to appliqué and hand-stitch your own crafty design – for your child, for you, or, bring a garment for each member of the family and create your own family insignia! Who doesn’t need a family logo???

While we craft and share a drink, we’ll discuss the highs, lows and how-tos of creative time with our children. We’ll explore when it’s best to step in and when it’s best to just back off and let them have their own experience. We’ll share with you our own lessons learned and hopefully hear some from you too! By evening’s end we’ll (hopefully) have figured out how to make your family’s creative and crafty time more satisfying for you, your child and your family as a whole.

Now into day 3 of our Blog Tour and we are so excitedly receiving all the accolades. It’s funny when you put something out into the world that has been such a painstaking effort for so long. For nearly 2 years we pored over every aspect of each project, each paragraph, each sentiment and each photograph too. We wrote, then re-wrote. Sewed, then re-sewed. All for the creation of Make Stuff Together. Our view of the final product was warped and a little harsh I might add. But now that it’s in the hands of other mothers, writers, crafters, bloggers and authors, we’re getting their view and it’s really been quite lovely. Aaah. Breathe in. Receive. Thank you folks.

Yesterday our friends up in the north country at Mama Renew offered a nice review and a book giveaway. And the lovely Heidi at My Paper Crane has a copy to give away as well.

Today, our dear friend and CALDECOTT awardee, Liz Scanlon has a nice little Q and A with us on her blog about the whys and ways of Making Stuff Together as a family. You can see the cover of her Caldecott winning, All the World in the pages of our book. Her questions were so thoughtful and so real and we both appreciated the chance to sit down and ponder her points. And she’s giving away a book too so get over there and get yourself one!

And come back tomorrow for more news about our blog tour. Or get on over to our Facebook page where you can stay attuned to what’s happening around Make Stuff Together.

Thanks for all your comments last week. Sorry if we seem delayed on this process that we said would be weekly. Truth be told, we don’t just seem delayed, we actually have been delayed. A case of chicken-pox, a school holiday and non-English speaking houseguests have spun our world a little out of its usual state of grace and order. Instead it was grace and chaos. But always grace in our homes. You should see it.

Our winner of last week’s fabric is Susan from right here in Austin, TX. Congrats Susan! We appreciate your visit and comment on our site. Susan is making baby hats for her dear daughter Asa and is needing some stash for a whole host of other crafty projects. She will no doubt be inspired but the contents of this particular envelope! And if you see her, ask her what her motto for the year is. It’s inspiring!

And, as promised, we’re doing it again. You have no idea how much amazing fabric Kathie has. Really and truly incredible stuff and LOTS of it. So, to make room for more cool patterns and fabrics we’re giving this stuff away. (I feel like Crazy Eddie. Any of you folks from the NY/NJ/CT area surely remember Crazy Eddie’s commercials…Prices so low we’re practically GIVING it all away!)

This week we want to know what you’re reading. And not just what you’re reading but how it’s affecting you. Is it mind-candy? Inspiration? Fodder for growth? We want to know.

And if you’re uncertain whether you want to take the time to leave a comment, here’s a little teaser of the envelopes chock full of fabric-y goodness. All ready to roll out our door and into your waiting craft space…

Yes, it’s true. More free fabric coming your way. As Kathie and I work out the details of our upcoming book, and figure out the tone we’ll take and whether or not we’ll have a little bullshit icon for when we get too uppity in that parenting kind of way, we’ll be thinking of all of you. We’re doing our best to keep it real over here and to keep the tone real as well. To prove that we’ll be thinking of you, we’ll be selecting a new name each week to whom we can send a small yet delightful batch of super fine, Kathie selected fabrics from her lifelong stash. Some vintage, some new, some one-of-a-kind, some beyond belief, all super cool you can count on that.

Our winner this week is Heidi with random.org’s lucky number 21 and as soon as we get her mailing address, we’ll be sending a fine fabric stash her way. Thanks to all who left a comment. We love reading your words and knowing you’re out there. Keep coming back because we’re really enjoying the process.

So leave a comment for next week’s drawing. Our question this week is, what project are you working on that fills your proverbial cup?
