More Ramonsterwear? No way!

Yes way. Though I said we were going to be giving away some of my homeschool designs stitched greeting cards, that is no longer the case -as the cards are at my house and we are at Kathie’s studio and though it’s only 1.25 miles away, I choose to wait to give those away until next week.  So, lucky you.  More beautiful Ramonsterwear.

This time around it’s one of Kathie’s sweet toddler linen vintage baseball uniforms in a size 6-12 mos.* complete with the team Ramonsterwear insignia on the chest. When your child is sporting this vintage inspired ensemble, including the linen pants with great detailed stitching, you will totally feel a part of the team.

How lucky for all of us that Future Craft Collective is under the same creative umbrella as Ramonsterwear. There is no end to the possibilities.

This time around we want to know how you feel about crafting with your kids. Or friend’s kids. Or some random kids you know or even don’t know. What are the upsides? How about the lows? What have you learned? Share it with us in a comment. And next Tuesday night we’ll draw a lucky winner.

*Keep in mind that my daughter wore her Ramonsterwear wrap dress for 2.5 years because after it stopped fitting as a dress, she wore it as a little tunic top.  so, though it’s 6-12 mos. it’s not an absolute!

As a non-crafty person, being crafty with my children takes me making sure that my full self is there, in the moment. I’ve learned that it’s a challenge for me, but I understand the importance of making, so I try and try….

    I love Ramonsterwear!!

You can keep the outfit- I already have it:) but as for crafting with kids, I must say that for me, with mine, it’s been somewhat disappointing so far. Now, I’m not giving up and there’s plenty of time, but it’s frustrating when you have all this time and desire and keep trying and all the kids really want to do is smear glue on each other, or break every crayon one by one, or whatever. Perhaps because they’re boys? Perhaps because they’re too young? Perhaps because I want it, therefore they must want the opposite? I’m sure you know all this. I used to love crafting with kids at camp, when I was the Craft Lady. Oh yeah.

Crafting with kids really depends on their temperament. My nephew loves to draw or put thing together and has remarkable patience. So if the kid is not one for sitting down, I’d say no. I think it is really fun when it works!

Goodness, this might be worth having another kid for… or bonsai-ing Jasper, at any rate!

I was never a kid who played much, being the bookish child of two rather controlling parents, so I try to let my kids have as much fun as possible. No matter how much mess is involved. It definitely goes against my nature but my husband is an artist and he’s very good about letting the kids get their hands dirty!

What I like: It gives me a chance to regress back into childhood and unwind from the pressures of being an adult. I get to share 1:1 time with my son, who always manages to show me a new way of looking at or creating art (”Oh, is that a mermaid?” “No, it’s Buzz Lightyear.”) . I’m creating memories, both tangible and intangible.

What I don’t like: His attention span usually fades long before mine and it’s hard for me to stop just because he feels like he’s done.

I have volunteered as an art docent for all my daughters grade school years and I found it very rewarding. I learned as much as they did. Kids are fearless when it comes to art and it is so fun to see what emerges in that safe arena. If there was a down side it might have been me designing a weaving workshop that was a bit over every ones head and I ran out of gas and time before the project could be completed. So realistic expectations are something to consider. LOVE THIS INSPIRATION !

Ramonsterwear ROCKS! I don’t even like baseball, but I am making love to my woman tonight so I can have a baby to wear that great outfit!
Future Craft is just that. A saner vision of where we can be, and profiting with the journey getting there.
Future Craft(ers) understand and rejoice in the fact that at each moment, we are capable of shaping our futures. Keep the word coming. Make love to the world

The thing I find most challenging is finding something I can do with kids that aren’t the same age. I have an almost 7yo and an almost 4yo. It’s been hard finding things they both can do. I also sometimes have a hard time giving in to the mess… but I’m better. =)

Oh the crafting with kids is my FAVORITE…. bring on the materials….bring on the mess. In fact the messier the better. This I think is the one spot I can really let go of the mess and just be….create…make…destroy…play whatever…with whatever. I could really get lost in crafting with kids. No plans….just supplies and see what comes out of it all….. and I think that is the real fun and joy. Ari of course is too little to craft just yet…but he does enjoy playing at my feet while I craft. So I have crafted with many of other people’s kids. The real challenge for me is when a kid isn’t in to crafting…… and a couple of art classes I taught….where I had no boundaries on glue or glitter…. that got really messy…and ewww the time I let them paint….. it got ALL over the place…. and really I was fine with it… however the school I was working for….the janitors….and a teacher or two…not as happy! But bahhh I say let them make a mess… how often do kids REALLY get to explore a medium….?

my daughter is 7 months old – so we haven’t started crafting yet ;) but I am looking forward to it. i don’t mind getting messy…or getting other things messy – so that’s not a problem. probably my only concern is my own perfectionism. it’s always been a challenge for me when working with children.

    thanks for the great giveaway!

I find it difficult to craft with my son. He is not into it the way I am. He would rather play int he yard, most of the time. But maybe this is his age? I don’t remember my parents doing crafts with my sister and me. My mom sewed and dad worked with wood in his shop. I don’t remember any collaborative family projects. It doesn’t come naturally to me, but I think it’s important and worth the effort, so I keep offering the choice.

Thanks for prompting me to think about this!

Crafting with my kids usually stresses me out. I am horrible about finding space that I don’t mind getting messy. I’m trying to do better and be more forgiving with my daughter – who loves to create. I’m learning the pluses of taking things outside and large sheets of plastic to cover whatever. The look on her face when she’s made something is just so worth whatever I have to do. I’m not a terribly crafty person so finding ways to foster her amazing creativity is high on my priority list.
