Upcycled materials – the supply grows

Date April 16, 2009

We got some really cool materials yesterday from our local triathlon shop, Jack and Adams. They are starting a whole new endeavor in attempts to minimize their waste a bit. They are encouraging cyclists to bring all their old parts and pieces down to their recycling center so that others can dig through and get busy making cool stuff.

They handed over piles of race banners, inner tubes, boxes and boxes of brand new t-shirts and all manner of stuff just beckoning us to our drawing table and our sewing machines. I whipped up a pretty cool tote bag out of one of the banners and I realize the material is not only indestructible but totally waterproof too. I used the inner tubes for handles after top stitching them and they look great. I want to make a wide shoulder strap out of them because I imagine the rubber would be super comfy resting on a shoulder.

Of course I always think Kathie should be our prototype maker but I couldn’t resist messing around with our new supply. Today Kathie is in the studio working her magic with this same pile of supplies so I beckon you all to stay tuned. Because, as you may already know, her design magic is unmatched and surely whatever she whips up you will want to have. And use. And fondle in all its upcycled glory.

Thanks Jack and Adams. You have inspired us beyond belief!

And here they are…

We’ll have some pics up soon. Actually we want Jack and Adams to buy us a Canon Rebel so we can take pictures of all the cool things that we’ll make with their detritus. Good idea, right?
