Thanks, I made it myself

Date September 16, 2008

Our first month of Future Craft classes are in full swing and we have had a blast thus far.

The kids made a reusable sandwich wrap in the first class using birdseed bags as the liner and cloth on the outside. Waterproof and cute to boot.

Second week we made a sweet utensil holder/place mat using a patchwork method on one side (getting to dig through so many of Kathie’s great fabrics for those 5 inch squares) and old sheet fabric on the other side. We all agreed that an old sheet on a bed just looks kind of granny-like (not that there’s anything wrong with that Mom!) but cut into pieces and used in such a product the fabric takes on a totally hip, new life. Funny how that works.

Next week we’ll make the bags getting to really celebrate the great designs of the bird seed carriers. Cardinals and goldfinch and the like adorn the covers and, again, taken out of context, look totally cool.

Each week we’re going to ask the girls a question about handmade and recrafting. This week we asked them, how do you feel when you utter the phrase, "thanks, I made it myself."  Their answers were quick and heartfelt: confident, proud, unique, stylish, cool, one-of-a-kind.  What else could a girl ask for??!!

We’ll have some photos soon enough.
